Yogis Worldwide Contort Themselves To Provide 4 Homeless

December 27, 2015

Yoga instructor Jonathan Old-Rowe explains to students where the grundle is located at Bird's Surf Shed in San Diego for the Yoga 4 Homeless Holiday Party.

Before being slurped up by a happy, lazy holiday week, I had the unforgettable experience of attending a Yoga 4 Homeless party that brought yogis together to donate yoga mats, blankets, jackets, and shoes to the homeless of San Diego. It was held at the legendary Bird’s Surf Shed and featured yoga taught by Chad Nellis and Jonathan Old-Rowe, music by DJ Justin Kanoya, and a catered dinner from Wahoo's Fish Tacos. A few local guest speakers including Sarah Maxwell and Josh Trent shared their insightful stories of personal development and giving back.

It was inspiring to see so many local yoga heros (over 30) come together in the name of the greater good.  Vibes are usually high when you get so many happy and healthy people together.  But add on a cause like helping the homeless, a dynamic leader like Andrew Beinbrink, a venue like Bird's Surf Shed, and the contributors such as Gaiam, Yoga Six, Prana, Graced by Grit, Trilogy, Suja, and Jinbucha.  It was a nourishing experience on many levels!

The story behind the Yoga 4 Homeless Viral Video Challenge was a late night idea envisioned by Y4H founder Andrew Beinbrink when thinking about how we could generate massive awareness for the local and global homeless epidemic fast! Andrew envisioned something similar to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, but for anyone that wants to help the homeless in a fun and east way by taking the “Yoga 4 Homeless Viral Video Challenge.” It’s been an all-out team effort, but so far the Y4H Viral Video Challenge has already been a big success and we invite you to join in the momentum with us and create your own video.

I'm in and I challenge you! The challenge is very clearly laid out here:

If I dont get the chance to give you a hug, Happy New Year.  Keep dancing!
